CW’s Youth Advisory Council (YAC)
Are you interested in being a leader for camp? Do you want to join the conversation of what camp can (and should) be into the future, giving feedback, and more? Then read below!
What is YAC?
Camp Washington is once again gathering our campers together in a council to advise the camp they love. This group meets throughout the year to share their perspective and ideas with the Camp Director, helping to shape the camp they’ll enjoy each summer. Youth will engage in a retreat at CW, virtual meetings, and planning an event for youth across ECCT!
Who Can Join YAC?
YAC is for any youth grades 8th - 11th who want to be leaders in service camp. These are youth who have come to camp for at least one summer, who have shown commitment to camp’s values, who have advocated for camp’s mission and values on and off CW’s campus, and who can commit time throughout the year! We will be looking for two representatives from each grade. Also, you don’t have to be Episcopalian - camp is for everyone!
When Does YAC Happen?
We will start accepting names October 21st, with a first meeting in early November. Campers will meet every other month for around an hour and a half, have an in-person retreat (date pending), and put on an event for ECCT youth in May. The program is a year long, and will end by June 1st (unless we plan to host our youth event in June).

Where Does YAC Meet?
We will primarily meet online, but will also have in person aspects at Camp Washington in Morris, Connecticut. Reach out to hear more about the in-person commitments that come with the position.
Why Should I Join?
There are a lot of reasons, but here are a few: (1) we believe that camp belongs to us all, including the campers that come. Camp’s programming and future is brighter if it involves the youth who will experience it. (2) Giving youth leadership opportunities is a value of ours, as is sharing opportunities for youth to be what God calls us to be - changemakers. (3) This program brings youth closer to the Church, their Faith, and closer to Camp! Being in YAC offers youth a chance to move.
More info?
If you’re interested in being on YAC, please reach out! We are happy to answer any questions you still have. We will be taking submissions via email, so please send info to our camp director, James Williams, at jwilliams@campwashington.org. We ask that responses come from the campers that are interested (not the parents)- they should share the camper’s camp history, a bit about why they want to be on YAC, their grade, any important leadership information, and we’ll take it from there!
