James Williams has joined the Camp Washington family as our Summer Camp Program Director. In his role, James will oversee the Summer Camp Program, and work closely with Executive Director Bart Geissinger to re-imagine, design, and implement summer camp programming that is exciting and relevant for our times, and our youth. "I am excited to join Camp Washington's Summer Camp ministry, and to add my passion and joy to the journey of helping others become their full, authentic, and transformed selves. I am a cradle-Episcopalian and have been engaged in the whimsical work of camp for 8 years. I grew up attending camp in the Diocese of Virginia, where I experienced a deep sense of belonging and community. At camp we find out together what is possible, do the hard/fulfilling work of growing in Christ's love, and HAVE FUN! Joy, safety, and community make growth inevitable - so there is no better place to be than camp! I am a continual advocate for justice in the world, and I've found no better foundation than the love I lived with at camp." “I was born in Denver, CO, raised both there and in rural Virginia. I come from a family of 5 (I'm the youngest....) and after high school earned my bachelor’s degree from Goucher College. In addition to serving as Director of Summer Camp programs at Shrine Mont for the past two years, I have worked in jobs from legislative advocacy to being a Barista! In my personal life, I am dedicated to climate and social justice, love to rock climb, and travel.” Executive Director Bart Geissinger said, “I am so excited that James has accepted my offer to join the Camp Washington staff. His enthusiasm, skill set, faith, and joy for life are exactly the gifts we need currently, to help evaluate and build our summer camp programs. His camp and church experience will benefit our community in many ways, and I know that our campers and staff will enjoy and benefit from his leadership! Please join me in welcoming James to Camp Washington and to the ECCT.” James currently resides in Richmond, Virginia and will start remotely on January 6th. Email James at jwilliams@campwashington.org

MEET JAMES WILLIAMS

SUMMER CAMP PROGRAM DIRECTOR

Camp Washington has been nurturing exploration and transformation for over 100 years! Established in 1917, Camp Washington’s beautiful 300 acre campus in the Litchfield Hills welcomes people of all faith traditions to find God in nature, to relax and learn, to have fun and make life long friends!  Camp Washington is the official camp and retreat center of the Episcopal Church in Connecticut.

We strive to create a community where children and staff, through teamwork, individual exploration and worship, can grow closer to God, as revealed in Jesus Christ. At Camp Washington we promote the enjoyment of nature through education and creativity, the strength of a community based on both togetherness and independence,  and the ability to enable each person towards the recognition of their responsibility as stewards of God’s creation.

Each year we carefully select a team of mature, responsible, and creative individuals to lead, support, and challenge our campers.  Join us for the best summer job you will ever have: long days, warm nights, and memories to last a lifetime!
