A Ministry of the Episcopal Church in CT for Teens and by Teens
Happening is a Christian experience for Teenagers by Teenagers (with the help of some clergy and lay adults) that takes place at Camp Washington. It is a weekend of exploration planned by young people from all over the state of CT and beyond. Happening is for High School aged youth in grades 10-12. The weekend is led by a young person who serves as Rector; your guide throughout the weekend. You’ll also find other teens experiencing Happening for the first time. It’s perfect for church youth groups, confirmation classes, or anyone who is curious about God’s love, and how to share it.

I am richly blessed to be serving as Executive Director. Some of my greatest childhood memories are of this place and I couldn’t wait to introduce my son to Camp Washington. The community here is inclusive and welcoming. We invite God’s children of all ages into a safe place to explore their faith, and their relationship and responsibility to creation, a place to simply play and be God’s children. The simple joys of a sunset, a campfire, a summer afternoon rain shower, the smile of a child making a new friend, the high five of a victorious capture the flag game are the things that bring me joy. I couldn’t think of a better place to “work” and I am so excited about the future of Camp Washington.

“Who’s Afraid of the Big, Bad Wolf?”
In the Bible and in our Western culture the wolf has been viewed as a threatening, rapacious, calculating animal. We might even say that each of us has a ‘shadow’ side that is more like wolf than angel. But throughout our spiritual journeys we are called to befriend our inner wolves and to let the Holy Spirit shine God’s redeeming light on them. We’re called to incorporate our redeemed inner wolves into our lives through and through, for that is the only way we can achieve a more mature state of wholeness in God’s eyes and in our own souls. We’ll look at how wolves are portrayed in the Bible and then we’ll consider two legends from the Christian tradition that present the wolf as redeemed predator—the stories of the martyrdom of King Edmund of England and the legend of Saint Francis and the Wolf of Gubbio.

“In Your Own Words: Retelling Scripture”
Join Maggie Breen, NE Region Missionary, and Fr. Brett Figlewski, St. Paul’s, Bantam, as we crack open our sacred Scripture together. We will discover how meaningful it can be when we put ourselves into the Scripture, by working in small groups to retell the lessons. Our time together will start with a reflection by Maggie, followed by work in small groups to shape the lessons for the day, and it will all be tied together as Rev. Brett leads us through the holy mystery of Communion in his own words. Come and see; come and experiment; come and experience together a new way to read, hear, and inwardly digest Holy Scripture.

CAMP WASHINGTON - HERE FOR OUR NEIGHBORS
Camp Washington is committed to helping our neighbors by providing individual frozen meals, prepared in-house by Ben, packed and ready to heat. We offer these meals, with love, to our neighbors who need us most right now.
We will distribute meals on Fridays in the front circle driveway at Camp. We will practice all social distancing protocols - cars will drive-up to the table and meals will be delivered to individual car windows. We will provide meals until we run out.
PLEASE share this news with those you know who need meals, or come by and pick up and deliver for those who can't, but need.
ALSO, we welcome donations of non-perishable pantry items which we will in turn offer to our guests who stop by on Friday. Pantry items may be brought to Camp on Wednesdays, a collection area will be set-up in the front circle driveway at Camp.
We are holding you in prayer and look forward to being together again, soon.
